In an email to RBS Chief Executive, Ross McEwan, Chris has asked the bank to re-think closing their Atherton branch.
He said:
Thank you for informing me of your plans to close the NatWest Branch in Atherton. As you will expect, I am disappointed at this intended closure and would ask you to reconsider your decision and keep the branch open.
The whole of the banking industry is going through a difficult time in Britain and I appreciate the necessity of keeping pace with changing technology and the way customers use your services but I am concerned about the loss of amenity to local residents and businesses. This closure will be especially difficult for some elderly people who will find it difficult to adapt to different services.
There are three points that I would like reassurance on:
1. Everything is being done to ensure that employees from the Atherton Branch will be given an opportunity to transfer to another branch or role with NatWest.
2. There are no plans to close or reduce services at your Horwich, Westhoughton or Bolton Chorley Old Road branches – all in Bolton West
3. The remaining branches in Bolton West will receive a fair share of the money allocated for branch upgrades.
Thank you in anticipation of your response.
