When it was announced that the Smithills Estate will be part of a £25m Government-funded program for natural flood management, constituents got in touch with me to ask what a ‘leaky dam’ is.
A ‘leaky dam’ is a barrier made of natural materials that slows down the flow of water after heavy rainfall. This holds water back so that it cannot make its way downstream too quickly, reducing the effects of flooding.
