Bolton Town Centre

Four successful local shops have been announced by Chris Green MP as being shortlisted for his Bolton West and Atherton Best Local Shop Competition.

Ruby Rose Clothing in Horwich, Hey Ho Let’s Sew in Atherton, Arm Candi in Westhoughton and Oaklands Nursery in Chequerbent will now go on to the final stage of the competition, where the shop with the most votes from Mr Green’s constituents will go on to be the winner.

The winner of the competition will also be put forward as the constituency’s nomination for the national “Best Small Shop” competition run by Indie Retail, where they will choose some entries to be invited to a prestigious Parliamentary reception.

In addition, the winner will be invited onto Bolton FM to talk about their shop and its success and also receive a bottle of bubbly donated by the Federation of Small Businesses.

Speaking about the competition, Mr Green said: “I received just under 600 nominations from people across the constituency for a wide variety of shops and it was fantastic to read so many of the wonderful comments about these shops and their place on our local high street.

“The final four shortlists were chosen based on the number of nominations they received, along with the positive comments constituents made about the services or products they offer.

“I look forward to finding out who my constituents choose as Bolton West and Atherton’s Best Local Shop in the coming weeks.”

Investing in our high streets and backing business

Thanks to our balanced approach to the economy we can invest in our high streets and town centres. That’s why I’m working with the new Conservative council and local residents to regenerate Horwich and Westhoughton town centres and I’ll push Wigan Council to improve Atherton. Bringing empty shops back into use and championing small businesses with my Best Local Shop competition.

Speech in Parliament - 30th December 2020

Thursday, 31 December, 2020

One concern that I share with the hon. Member for Birmingham, Selly Oak (Steve McCabe) is about the certainty and clarity of the tiering system and what can be seen as a slightly erratic aspect of that.
