There are many changes going through the NHS across the country. Many are government reforms but others are led by councils and other local bodies. Under this government, by reducing the number of managers by 7,000, we have been able to increase the number of nurses by 3,000, doctors by 6,000 and midwives by 1,700 since 2010.
Spending on the NHS has been protected and maintained since 2010 but there are always new techniques and procedures which can add costs but can also, especially with early interventions, improve health and save taxpayers money.
Winifred Kettle care centre is in the process of going through major changes that are directed by Labour run Bolton Council. A local Labour councillor said “This is brilliant for Westhoughton”. It does seem odd that radical change locally is “brilliant” but any development nationally is met with near hysteria from Labour.
Chris Green says “Home-based care has a vital role in the future of our NHS and is often what patients and families want. Having visited Winifred Kettle and discussed the changes with staff and residents, I am concerned about the impact that Bolton Council’s changes will have. Residents and patients currently enjoy great medical treatment and care from dedicated staff in a strong community environment and this has to be the priority”.
