Chris Green MP has been campaigning for increased capacity at Bolton West & Atherton stations and raised this in Parliament yesterday.
He said: “Urban sprawl creates excessive pressure on local road infrastructure in my constituency, which means Daisy Hill and Atherton stations have to have increased capacity at their car parks. Will the Secretary of State do all he can to ensure that we build up, not out, especially within walking and cycling distance of established public transport routes?”
Sajid Javid, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, confirmed that there would be specific measures in the government’s new White Paper around this subject, particularly in respect of “urban transport hubs and other transport hubs, in order to get a greater density and make much better use of the land.”
