The Prime Minister, David Cameron, kicked off the Conservative European Union election campaign on a visit to Manchester Airport on the 10th April. The theme was the Conservative successes in building a stronger economy at home, renewed respect abroad and real change in the EU.
We have delivered:
-
First-ever EU budget cut, saving the British tax payer £8.15 billion
-
Taken Britain out of the Eurozone bail-outs
-
Vetoed a treaty that would have damaged Britain’s business interests
-
Reduced red tape for British business
-
Taken action to fix our immigration system and limit migrants’ access to benefits
We will deliver:
-
An in-out referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU
-
More powers back to Britain and a better deal for taxpayers
-
Continued control of our borders and a crackdown on benefit tourism
-
More control of justice and home affairs
-
More trade and continued economic independence – by say no to the Euro and ‘ever closer union’
There was a great sense that progress is now being made but also an understanding that Labour never stood up for Britain in the EU. Chris Green says, “David Cameron achieved the first ever EU budget cut but Labour negotiated a cut in our rebate and that has cost the British people billions of pounds. Following the next General Election, the Conservative government will give the British people an in-out referendum on the EU whilst Labour still reject listening to the peoples’ voice.”
