Yesterday Chris Green MP raised the importance of securing high skilled jobs and higher wages as part of the Government’s Northern Powerhouse plans in Treasury Questions.
New figures show that since 2010 the number of people in Bolton West claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance and Universal Credit, while not in employment has fallen by 40%. This means more people in work, with the security of a job and regular wages so they can provide for themselves and their families.
In addition to this, figures also show that wages are rising at the fastest rate in real terms since 2007 – rising for the eighth month in a row. The ONS’s official statistics show that annual real wage growth is now at 3.2% and in the private sector, pay is up 3.8%. This means more financial security for hardworking families in Bolton West.
Chris said: “This is great news for hard working families within my constituency. The UK has had the largest rise in the employment rate, and the largest fall in the unemployment rate, of any G7 economy over the last year. I will continue to fight for the interests of my constituents in Bolton West, ensuring that this trend of high employment and higher wages will continue.”
