Last week I was pleased to lend my support to Alzheimer's Society, the UK's leading dementia charity, for Dementia Action Week. One million people will have dementia by 2021 and it is vital that we are able to deliver high quality social care to everyone that needs it.
Yesterday I spoke in the chamber about the importance of Government action to tackle plastic waste. Since the 5p plastic bag charge there have been 9 billion fewer bags distributed. But in the UK we go through an estimated 13 billion plastic drinks bottles a year.
Lovely to meet with Bolton Lever Rotary Club for a Q&A in Parliament following their tour of the Palace of Westminster this week. It was great to hear what the club is up to and answer their questions about Parliament and life as an MP.
Following on from the important work of my colleague, Lucy Allan MP, I’ve just spoken in the House about Telford. It is outrageous that these vulnerable children are not getting attention and support from the broadcast media following the gross lack of support from social services.
I grew up on Free School Meals and it’s something that I know is important to many families across Bolton West. That’s why I was concerned to hear that Labour are spreading lies about the change in policy and I wanted to set the record straight.
Today marks Holocaust Memorial Day, the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau – and is an important opportunity to remember the victims and survivors of the Holocaust and make sure they are not forgotten.
