Good quality local roads are one the keys services that local residents expect for paying their council tax. This year, Labour made the decision to increase this tax and was the only borough in the whole of Greater Manchester to do so. Even with the extra taxation, the state of our roads is still not good enough. Fortunately, Wigan council did not increase the council tax.
We need good quality roads so we can get to work, drop the children off at school and for leisure. Dodging around the potholes in poorly maintained roads is not only dangerous it can also cause damage to your car and require an expensive repair. It is also particularly dangerous for cyclists!
In this year’s budget, the Chancellor, George Osborne, allocated the money for a huge nationwide plan to support councils to repair your local roads. Over £700K of additional funding is being given to Bolton and over £950K to Wigan council to repair the roads.
