Chris Green MP attended the first meeting of the newly elected Science and Technology Committee on Wednesday 15th July. The Committee heard evidence from Jo Johnson MP, Minister of State for Universities and Science, Department for Business, Innovation and Skills; Gareth Davies, Director General, Knowledge and Innovation, Department for Business, Innovation and Skills; Philippa Lloyd, Director General, People and Strategy, Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, as part of to begin examination of the Science Budget.
Representatives from the four national academies also gave evidence to the committee; Sir Paul Nurse, President, The Royal Society; Professor Richard Parker CBE FREng, Chair, Research and Secondments Committee, Royal Academy of Engineering; Lord Stern of Brentford, President, British Academy and Professor Sir John Tooke, President, Academy of Medical Sciences.
The Committee’s first enquiry is on the Science Budget, which has been ring-fenced as a separate budget within the Business Innovation and Skills departmental budget. The Committee will have further sessions in the autumn.
