Town councils - your views

Chris Green believes that democracy should be as local as possible.  In Blackrod, Horwich and Westhoughton, we have a town council but we do not have one in Atherton despite local demands.  Wigan council has done everything it can to stop Atherton having strong local representation.

In other parts of the Bolton West constitiuency, the merit of town councils is in doubt.  Is this because they are a bad idea or because they do not challenge the borough council effectively?  If the town council, the borough council and the local MP are all Labour will there be any democratic challenge?  Probably not which is why we need more representative town councils and a Conservative MP in Bolton West.  This will mean that the local establishment is challenged and better services will be delivered.
